Dr. Alan L. Schechter is a board certified dermatologist. Dr Schechter was born and raised in New York City and, after years of training as a medical researcher and physician, now resides in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
Dr. Schechter has extensive training and knowledge of the skin, scalp, hair and nails and treats conditions that affect those areas. He will evaluate any abnormality, blemish or lesion on the skin in order to determine the cause and will determine a course of treatment. Dr Schechter will also provide patients with a full body scan in order to identify any signs that are indicative of an illness that requires treatment, such as skin cancer.
He is a specialist that can provide cosmetic services, such as mole removal, laser, scar diminishing treatments and other procedures.
Dr. Schechter obtained his Ph.D. from Princeton University in the field of molecular biology and thereafter was a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received scholarship awards from the National Institutes of Health, the Anna Fuller Fund, and the American Cancer Society. His research into the cause of cancer resulted in his discovery of a cancer causing gene called erB-2 which is now used by pathologists around the world in the diagnosis of breast cancer and treatment of metastasis. Dr. Schechter has published numerous articles in prestigious journals such as Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Cell, and Science. He has also lectured at conferences both in the U.S. and abroad. He is also clinical associate professor of Dermatology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.
