Why are so many women getting boob jobs?
The reasons are very personal and based on the individual’s body, history, and image. In general, the most popular goals are to increase the size, change the shape, or improve symmetry of the breasts.
Dr. Said Samra, board-certified plastic surgeon at Samra Plastic Surgery who has consulted with thousands of women on the subject, says, “Before pregnancy, women interested in the procedure are typically looking to increase size or address asymmetry. Post pregnancy, women are usually looking to restore shape and replace volume loss. Breast implants can also be used to form a more hourglass figure by creating balance between the breasts and hips. One thing these women all have in common is they want to feel more confident about the way they look in and out of clothes.”
So, how do you go about getting breast implants?
If you’ve been considering a breast aug, seek out board-certified plastic surgeons. During your consultations, you’ll want to discuss your desires for the size, feel and appearance of your breasts. Bring in magazine photos, print outs or have screenshots ready on your phone that show what you’re hoping your breasts will resemble once the procedure has been completed.
Your surgeon will educate you about implants. They can be saline or silicone gel filled, round or teardrop shaped and have a textured or smooth surface. He or she will also discuss different ways to perform the surgery and how implants can be placed above or below the muscle. The decision on type of implant and how they will be inserted and placed will be based on your existing proportions and how best to achieve your desired outcome.
Choose a surgeon based on safety and their prior results as read from patient reviews and seen in before and after photos of their work. Make sure the magazine pictures you brought in look like the after pictures in their portfolio. As for price, there are plenty of financing options available for this procedure and many are interest free for a period of time.
The surgery can be performed in an accredited, private surgery center or at an outpatient hospital facility. Most likely, you’ll be under general anesthesia and asleep the whole time. You’ll go home the same day.
You’ll wear a compression bra during the healing period. You can return to a non-physical job after about a week. Soreness and swelling are likely for a few weeks after surgery so you’ll need to take it easy for optimal healing. It will take several months for your implants to settle and to see a more final result.
